GB Capacity Market Reinstated

Last week the European Commission ruled that the GB Capacity Market should be restored, following its suspension in November 2018 (see here). The press release from the Commission can be found here.

The UK Government’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has confirmed that:

  • Previously suspended payments will be restored and paid by January 2020.
  • The conditional capacity agreements awarded in the replacement T-1 auction, held in July 2019, have become full capacity agreements.
  • The three capacity auctions scheduled for early 2020 will also take place.

Notices from BEIS can be found here.

Tempus Energy, who brought the claim against the UK Government have criticised the decision, as reported here on the Current News web site.
