The CFTC has published this report which investigates the oil price “crash” that occurred in April, that sent prices down to negative levels (see here). This article on Bloomberg reports that the investigation does not assign blame for the price move, and that the report has been classified as interim. This statement by Commissioner Dan Berkovitz expresses some disappointment that a deeper investigation has not yet been published. This statement by Commissioner Rostin Behnam also expresses concerns, including in relation to the position limits policy.
This article on the FT website reports an update to the case brought last year against a UBS compliance officer and a day trader for the improper sharing of inside information, often at a nightclub and coordinated using a “burner” phone (see here). The case resulted in convictions. An appeal against the convictions is being heard on the basis of their being “unsafe”. There is also information on the involvement of traders from Citigroup, which are denied.
