The European Commission has issued this press release which gives “CBAM declarants” extra time to submit the first reports, which were due today (31 January). The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism starts in full in 2026 from when certificates will need to be attached to in scope imports to the ETS area, including electricity, iron, aluminium and other commodities. This initial phase is a reporting pilot in which participation is compulsory (see here).

A fine of 90,000 EUR has been issued under EMIR in Finland (see here). The fine is levied for a series of reporting failures between 2019 and 2023. This includes failing to properly establish delegated reporting facilities. Another firm was fined for EMIR reporting failures in Ireland in the last quarter of 2023 (see here).
