Mario Draghi, the former prime minister of Italy, has published this report which has been requested by the European Commission, entitled “the future of European Competitiveness”. While the report is wide ranging, it includes a section on the future of the energy markets. In the report, from page 29, several suggestions are made around the application of regulation to the energy markets, including a review of the position limits regime and also the Ancillary Activity Exemption found in MIFID II. A summary of the relevant parts can be found in this article by Montel.
Tomorrow sees the start of the Energy Trading Week conference in London(see here), with the “ETRC” stream featuring many relevant talks and panels including by regulators. ETR Advisory will be sponsoring the conference, as will REMITREP, a joint venture between ETR Advisory and Correggio Consulting to provide support to aid compliance with the new “representative” rule found in REMIT II. This rule requires non-EU REMIT Market Participants to have a “representative” in the EU from 8th November. More details can be found here.
