While many of the articles will apply more to the financial industry, the world of energy and commodities is gradually needing to become more and more aware of these issues, especially as the use of clearing takes hold. While many in the sector are currently “NFC-” and therefore not subject to mandatory clearing or margining, the shift is likely to happen anyway because of the probable move in liquidity.

On top of this, if the rules on the loss of MiFID exemption affect any companies, they will be re classified as “Financial Counterparties”, and many of the rules will apply. Once the Regulatory Technical Standards of MiFID II are finalised, we will be on the way to finding out the extent of its impact on the industry.
